Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of heroes, and a gripping narrative featuring divine entities, demons, and malevolent powers expanding in power within the urban setting.
Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 are included.
The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled
Episode 3 finished on a dramatic pause and introduced the premier party of heroes who will split off from the main group to undertake their separate journey, separate from the remaining groups.
This warrior group features Teor Pridesire (played by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura), Tyranny (the cast member), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
Given 13 cast members, it was obvious from the outset that having everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
Hence, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, intertwining the characters’ stories before branching into three smaller tables: Warriors, Schemers, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Warrior Group
Per the DM, the warrior group is for participants who enjoy a traditionally charged battle-oriented gameplay experience where non-violent answers are few and far between.
Initially, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might appear unsuited, but the events of the latest installment make it clear why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the warrior group.
Reasons to Leave
For one thing, the team has a clear idea where to head next after a brutal first encounter with the antagonists.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose demise initiated the campaign’s events—exploited The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, entering Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and stealing all the powerful objects to auction.
Casimir then settled his obligations and fled to a fortified location in the northern region, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd hot on his heels.
Individual Reasons
Additionally, each member has a individual motive to leave the city the urban setting:
- Thimble, as the companion and closest confidant, wants vengeance.
- Kattigan is familiar with the region and advises that it is a dangerous place.
- The strong character and The cleric, having resisted his house’s orders to execute the fighter and instead freed him, have no other options.
- Yet, their status as key figures in the influential clan could help the party reach locations they usually can’t.
- Moreover, The fighter vowed a eternal obligation to The savior for his deliverance and will now follow him anywhere.
Fugitives
Lastly, all of them are sought by the powers that control Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making lingering locally dangerous:
- Thimble and The hero are known criminals.
- The strong figure and Wicander turned against House Halovar and the army of fiends they are allied with.
- The target is marked for death by the clan.
This results in them few options but to travel to the remote area in pursuit of the antagonist.
What’s Next?
From the latest episode’s follow-up content, we find out that the combat party will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight cast members to round up the Seekers and Schemers groups.
Audiences can anticipate learning which players will be assigned to which table in the season’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on October 24.
